Currently am working on a WBT and for that am using Adobe Captivate 3 to capture demonstrations and for certain slides, I have to do patch work.
We all know that if the status of an application is WIP, one thing is clear that you can expect a lot of re-work. And that is precisely what is happening. My concern is that in certain slides where am doing patch work, once am merging it with the background, there's a slight shift which is noticeable if you closely look at it. One of my team mates suggested that I should lock that particular slide and the object to avoid making the shift of the patch work noticeable. Also once you merge an object with the background the quality deteriorates. Nevertheless, locking objects did work.
However, I wanted to know what one should do ideally while doing a patch should work on a slide. What is the best work around? Would be glad if people answer my query.

Hi,
I have to face this issue all the time when building tutorials for software that's still being changed by the developers. The secret to making the slides you splice in almost impossible to pick is to get the top-left corner of the capture screen in exactly the same spot every time. When I capture software screens of web applications, I don't capture the entire window (including title bar and min/max/kill buttons) because the published output will have these as well. So I want to avoid doubling up. I capture only the software application running inside the window. When you open up a Captivate capture window, you can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move and position the capture window one pixel at a time so as to position it exactly. Pick a spot where you can see clearly when it's right (e.g. because there' a darker line or something that becomes visible when you move the capture window) and set it there every time you need to do a capture. It' this top-left corner that's critical. Get this right, and always use the same size capture window, and you should be set.
